Which Way to God - a Christian Look at World Religions
Christians believe Jesus is the only way to God - but what about friends and neighbours who practice other religions? Together we will learn what the basic beliefs and practices of the various world religions are and what it means to be a Christian in the context of these religions.
The Case for a Creator
Based somewhat on Lee Strobel's book of the same name, this elective will examine the things science has found that point to a Creator. The sessions will provide a survey of topics (no science knowledge required) including how the Theory of Evolution started, the church's reaction, how modern study of the physical world and how modern biology are changing our view of how life came about. Come ready for lots of discussion.
God-Encounters: praying the scriptures
God is always entering our lives to heal and redeem us. The Old and New Testaments record many stories of these vivid, personal encounters. Using a simple, ancient rhythm of reading scripture, reflecting on it, responding to it and then resting in it, we'll meditatively read together six stories of people encountering God (Adam & Eve; Moses; Elijah;Zacchaeus; the Woman at the Well; Peter) and let these stories open our own hearts to God's presence in our lives right now.
A Look at Short Term Missions
Christ calls us to His mission and our members are answering that call. Here's a chance to listen to the stories of our church members who have recently been on a short term mission trip around the world.
Story and Craft
Children from kindergarten to grade 2 will have stories read to them and will make a craft. Children should be able to handle scissors and glue.
The Jesse Tree
The Jesse Tree is an Advent devotion that helps both kids and adults to trace the family tree of Jesus. Ornaments, representing Old Testament people and events that lead up to Jesus, are crafted and hung on the tree. A Bible verse is linked to each symbol so that by Christmas you will know more about the history of salvation and the meaning of Christmas!
A Christmas Drama
If you like being involved in set construction and acting out a Christmas play, this is for you! It will require commitment and a willingness to listen and get the job done but it should be lots of fun. The play will be presented in church on November 30!
