  Advent Series - December 2011

Fleetwood Christian Reformed Church invites you to join us for the advent series on "Imaging Tomorrow, Living with Isaiah in Advent and Christmas" where we are invited to sit where Isaiah sat. When we read his book the mood is fast changing but by evoking images of what God can and will do, Isaiah keeps challenging us to think differently. Beginning with the mountain and continuing with a branch, a desert, a sign, and a child, the prophet grants us glimpses of tomorrow. All these images are multicolured in their style and multidimensional in their meaning. In living with Isaiah during this special season, we hope that his familiar images will help us to trust that God keeps His Word and fulfills His promise.

You are invited to join us for both morning and evening services

November 27 AM: The Mountain (Isaiah 2:1-5)

November 27 PM: A Blue Christmas - a service for those that miss a loved one at Christmas or find the Christmas season a difficult one to get through.

December 4 AM: The Branch (Isaiah 11: 1-10)

December 4 PM: A Children's Service - "Tell It Again" - a child friendly service for young and old in an informal and relaxed atmosphere. WE will have fun singing, listening to a story, watching a drama and a short movie and making a craft. Hot chocolate, cider and treats to follow.

December 11 AM: The Desert (Isaiah 35)

December 11 PM: An Evening of Caroling - Come together with friends and family to form groups of carolers to go caroling in the church neighbourhood from 5:30 - 7 pm. Refreshments served afterwards.

Relationship in Healthy Congregations

We will come together for a series of discussions on topics including forgiveness, truthtelling, connecting, and helping one another in community. Each session will root in scripture while providing opportunity for participants to share challenges and joys.

Let There be...Stuff?

Remember the 'StoryofStuff.org'? They've teamed up with GreenFaith.org to develop "a Spirit-filled response to a consumer-crazed world." They claim that: "The environmental crisis facing our planet is now an accepted reality worldwide. Our life-support systems are unravelling and the consequences are being felt in the extreme weather patterns, the melting of polar ice caps, and an increase in preventable diseases." In short, God's Creation is in trouble because of our ravenous relationship with our stuff. That's quite a claim to make and cries out for examination and response. We welcome interested people of all ages and viewpoints.

Global Warming - A Christian Response

This elective focuses on what a Christian position on the global warming debate might look like from a Reformed perspective. We will compare and contrast declarations on global warming from 3 Christian organizations. We will look at Reformed principles relevant to the global warming debate and discuss their implications for a Christian perspective on the debate, on public policy options as well as on personal choices.

The Church of All Ages - Generations Worshiping Together

Fleetwood CRC is a multigenerational church and this has an impact on the way we worship! It calls for worship that holds the generations together. Is that even possible? Using Howard Vanderwel's book, this elective will explore the practices and purposes of intergenerational worship. There are no easy answers, but this book study will help us along the way.

Read with Me, Craft with Me

For our youngest group (basically ages 5-7) we will do different stories and associated crafts every week.

Christmas Paper Art

This elective is not just for kids - in fact you should be at least 11-12 years old to participate in this elective! So preteens, youth, adults, seniors are all welcome as we go through 6 sessions on paper art, making various items/crafts with a Christmas theme.

Christmas Baking

Children will bake different kinds of Christmas cookies, etc. Some you will be able to take home and some you will be making to give to others.
