out of our depth

I often feel out of my depth.  Especially when it comes to fulfilling God's call to tell others about Jesus.

I bet you do too.

We know we are supposed to engage in that mission. We know this is supposed to be a key part of who we are. Its even a part of our contemporary testimony, Our World Belongs to God (stz 41)

"Joining the mission of God, the church is sent with the gospel of the kingdom to call everyone to know and follow Christ and to proclaim to all the assurance that in the name of Jesus there is forgiveness of sin and new life for all who repent and believe.

"The Spirit calls all members to embrace God’s mission in their neighborhoods and in the world: to feed the hungry, bring water to the thirsty, welcome the stranger, clothe the naked, care for the sick, and free the prisoner."

Then the really difficult passage.

"We repent of leaving this work to a few, for this mission is central to our being."

This mission is central to our being.

CENTRAL!?!

When we think about our church, is that what we see? Is God's mission central to what we do? Are we focussed on calling everyone to follow Christ?

Are you? Because, truth be told, if you follow Jesus, you ARE the church.

Are you committed to proclaiming the assurance found in Jesus to all?

Do we, each and everyone of us, embrace God's mission in our neighbourhoods and in the world?
