What's on your Lent prayer list?

On Tuesday night, our Kids Klub (grade 4-7) got together for some games and crafts. They made these beautiful Easter crosses out of clothespins and flowers. It proved to be a bit tricky for some of the younger ones, but with help, they all turned out. I love the flower-filled crosses, reminding us that Jesus died AND rose. They remind us of the life and beauty we receive through Jesus’ death and resurrection. With what signs and symbols do you decorate your home to remind you of Jesus’ love for you and your family?

Another thing we did at Kids Klub was make a Lent prayer list. Since Lent is a time of spiritual reflection and intentional focus on our relationship with God, the kids were invited to make a list of the things they would commit to praying for during Lent. I loved observing this moment as the teacher was explaining the activity. Here is my paraphrase:

Student: Is there a maximum or minimum of what we should put on our list?

Teacher: This is a list between you and God. It is personal. It’s about what you are committing to pray     for. You can put whatever you want on this list.

I loved her answer. While she did not answer the question directly, she reminded this child that God desires a relationship with his children. Our faith is not a checklist, a follow the rules sort of thing. There is no minimum requirement, no maximum either. You cannot pray too much. No one else can tell you what you must or should be praying for. Prayer is about your relationship with God.

Be encouraged. Pray with commitment. Pray boldly this Lent.
